How can I run the Sims 1 with all the expansion packs (it’s the whole first gen. edition) on windows vista?

When I get to the neighborhood, it just keeps loading, and I can never play. Some people talked about xp compatibility mode, but I don’t see that option when I click on the maxis folder.

What happens if I exit the game while my Sims are on vacation?

I have Bon Voyage. My sims are on vacation, and while I couldn’t save upon arrival, once the shuttle left, I was able to. So, if I save and exit to the neighborhood, what happens? Can I start back into my vacation? If so, how?
